Summary of facts

In July 2021, following a terrorist attack on a TotalEnergies gas site in Mozambique, armed soldiers of the Joint Task Force, a military unit created under an agreement between Mozambique and TotalEnergie, were providing security for the infrastructure. TotalEnergie allegedly financed and materially supported the Joint Task Force.
Civilians fleeing the Al-Shabaab militia were allegedly confined in metal containers at the entrance to the site, kept starving, beaten and tortured by TotalEnergie’s security soldiers. For some, this allegedly lasted until September 2021. At least 5 were allegedly killed and others declared missing.
Amnesty International France recalls that everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty according to law.
